This morning I started my computer as usual and found that Word 365 seems to be totally GONE. It was here yesterday, and every day for a long time. I have Word 2010 installed on the same computer, and can still open the files created by 365 (at least all the ones I've tried so far). Can someone tell me what the h*** happened?
If it's a "subscrption" that expired, wouldn't I have heard something about it, an email, a text, SOMETHING. I am so fed up with Microsoft forcing me down a path I don't want to visit. |

Microsoft 365 is a subscription service that in many subscriptions includes the regular desktop applications. For convenience the Word downloaded could be referred to as Word 365. It is changing on a monthly basis, if not more.
Word 2010 edits the same files (and I think is a better product although it does not have everything the recent versions have). Word 2010 has some nice features lost with Word 2013 and later. You can sign into your Microsoft account and check your subscription status. Microsoft account | Sign In or Create Your Account Today – Microsoft |

Thanks for your answer. I checked and my "subscription" (I'm guessing it came with a laptop I purchased and didn't activate for 2-3 years; I never knowingly "subscribed.") It doesn't expire, however, until October of this year, so I don't know what happened (ie., why the program disappeared). I did see something on-line about a long, involved process I could go through to "get back" the missing program, but I agree that 2010 Word is better than 365 anyway and it's not a subscription. I already know I can access files saved from 365 with Word 2010, so I guess it could do no harm to cancel my subscription (at least when it's due to expire), eh? Although you seem to have a lot of patience, I'm guessing it could get irritating to see "subscription" in quotes all the time, so I'll stop doing it. It was a way of displaying my scorn for something that I never ordered and didn't like, which is probably only of interest to me. R Joslin ![]() |

There is also a free version, but it lacks some features.
