I've padded a shaded paragraph with 20top 10bottom 20left 10right. Top, bottom and right work fine but on the left I have a white bar that should be gray shaded. Why is it not gray?

It appears that there is a bug when the border standoffs aren't equal.

If you set the left and right to the same space you don't have a problem.
If left is greater than right, you see this white space
If right is greater than left, the shading goes beyond the border

Simple fix is to make the left/right sizes the same. If you are unhappy with that fix, put the text inside a table cell and shade the table.

I see you are using Office 2016, does this bug also occur in that, not just in the Office 2021?

I tested it on a machine that is running the current M365 so I can't verify that bug was also in office 2016.

Did you try the suggested fix of equal padding?

Yes, everything works smoothly, I was just wondering if all new/old Office releases have this bug?
