In the Cross-reference dialog box, you will only see those captions for which there is a caption label defined in Word. Some of the numbers in your sample document use { SEQ Equation } while others use { SEQ ( }. "Equation" is a default caption label in English language versions of Word, while "(" is not.

Note that you can always enclose a caption or caption number in a bookmark and then insert a cross-reference to bookmark text.

You can add "(" as a caption label via the Caption dialog box. Use the New Label button (seen in your screen shot).

Use the New Label dialog box to add "(" as a caption label. It will be saved to the Normal template (this is true for all caption labels). See the attached screen shot.

Why are you explaining how to add a label that was clearly a mistaken attempt at adding brackets to the equation number? You already gave the OP the correct answer in their other question.

The OP's sample file also includes a SEQ field in which "(" is being used as an identifier. Often it helps to have the identifier as a caption label as well, for the purpose of creating cross-references for example.

I covered the addition of brackets around numbers in the other thread at https://www.msofficeforums.com/word/...-brackets.html.
