How to automatically put the Equation caption number between brackets?
How to automatically put the Equation caption number between brackets?
In the screenshot below (the docx also attached), I couldn’t figure out how to automatically put the Equation caption number between brackets. As a workaround, I managed to put these brackets manually, however, in this case, the left bracket gets removed when the caption is updated What could be the issue here?

You can make the brackets part of the SEQ field that Word uses for captions. It will then be included as you create the cross-reference.
The screen shot below illustrates how it can be done. Construct a SEQ field with the \# field. In the string that follows the switch, # represents the SEQ/caption number and the static text is the rest of the instruction. For easy reuse, save the whole field as an AutoText entry.
