How to automatically put the Equation caption number between brackets?
In the screenshot below (the docx also attached), I couldn’t figure out how to automatically put the Equation caption number between brackets. As a workaround, I managed to put these brackets manually, however, in this case, the left bracket gets removed when the caption is updated What could be the issue here? |

You can make the brackets part of the SEQ field that Word uses for captions. It will then be included as you create the cross-reference.
The screen shot below illustrates how it can be done. Construct a SEQ field with the \# field. In the string that follows the switch, # represents the SEQ/caption number and the static text is the rest of the instruction. For easy reuse, save the whole field as an AutoText entry.
