Default "Change Word Options" don't change

Word 2007 doc.
I have inserted a four column table with different formatting for each column, like Italic or a different font color. When I copy/cut from one cell to another I need it to match the destination formatting. In Word Options - Advanced - cut, copy and paste, I have set all options to "Match destination formatting" and clicked "OK". But when I cut/copy and paste, it retains the source formatting. I know individually I can click on the little clipboard - Paste Options. But, I am more concerned (curious?) why I can't get Word to do this option. Thanks.
