Word 2021: The page number does not respect the “section break” and “link to previous” option,



Despite inserting the “section break” and disabling the “link to previous” option, the page numbering continues to count the previous pages that have section break!

What could be the issue here?

The Link to Previous setting is irrelevant.

In the Page Number Formatting dialog, tell Word to (1) restart page numbering and (2) use Arabic rather than Roman numerals.

If your Front Matter Roman numerals are created using a switch, rather than by setting the number format in the Format Page Numbers, the Roman Numerals will not show up in a Table of Contents, but be reported in the TOC as Arabic numbers. (Page numbers, and the Table of Contents, itself, are fields in Word.

Word is not a typewriter, nor is it any other word processing program you may have learned. It works according to rules that are not necessarily intuitive. Spending a little time learning to use this tool will keep you from hitting yourself on the thumb with a hammer. It will save you time and frustration.
