QuickParts and Autotext
Hi friends!
I have a small graphic that I want to use again and again in different places so I saved it to QP AutoText. I can go to insert and choose to insert it but is there a way to make like auto text so when I type a short string it will automatically insert the graphic? Have Googled around and didn't find anything. Thank you and have a good day! Susan Flamingo |

You can save the graphic as a formatted AutoCorrect entry.

Stefan is correct. See Exploiting AutoCorrect by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP.
You can use the AutoComplete feature with Building Blocks (including AutoText) so long as they are saved in:
Where can Building Blocks be stored? The difference between AutoCorrect and AutoComplete is that with AutoComplete you need to press Enter or the F3 key to get the entry. AutoCorrect replaces the trigger upon completion of typing the trigger and pressing space, Enter, or typing a punctuation mark. It does this without any notification, asking for confirmation or otherwise asking about it. Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 04-16-2024 at 11:54 AM. |

Thank you for your attention!
It would seem that the solution is slightly different from what you are both saying here. I found that you give the graphic (that was saved in QP as AT) a name and then when you type that name and press f3 and it inserts the graphic... Works fine for me... |

The difference is that when you use the AutoText facility (Building Blocks), you have to confirm with ENTER that you want to insert the entry (if AutoComplete is activated) or explicitly press F3 (as you mentioned), while a formatted AutoCorrect entry will be added automatically as you type the string "name" (or trigger).

To create a formatted AutoCorrect, you have to insert the graphic in your document, select it and then visit the AutoCorrect dialog box. This is far from obvious in the user interface, but it is the way it works.

Please do read Exploiting AutoCorrect by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP.
It is important that your trigger for AutoCorrect not be something that you would otherwise type, even with a typo. This is because the insertion is instant and without notice. I am a touch typist and would not see such a replacement without careful proofreading (in the case of a text replacement). Here is a link to my writing about AutoCorrect: AutoCorrect |
