Default Custom cross-reference

Hi, apologies if this has been discussed previously but I couldn’t see to find it in the search.
Is there a way to only display the numerical value of a figure, when using Cross-reference? Rather than the label and number, and for this format to be preserved when updating.
I have a document that contains multiple figures that I’m trying to cite in the text body using the Cross-reference tool, so that they update when the order of figures is changed.
Many of the figures have sub-parts that are labelled (e.g. A, B, C etc). The figures themselves are captioned as Fig.1 example and Fig.2 example. I would like only the figure number to appear in-text as the cross-reference, that way i can choose if the prefix is Fig. or Figs.

I have attached a screenshot that hopefully explains.

Many thanks for any assistance.
cheers
