Hiding fields
Hi friends!
I am not able to hide TC fields or XE (index) fields. I select the field and hit alt-f9 and it doesn't hide them. I have looked for a solution through Google and all they mention is selecting and alt-f9, but as I said it is not working. Am I doomed to see all these fields all the time even when I am not working with them? I have unselected the option to show field codes Thank you and have a good day! Susan Flamingo |

If you have display hidden text switched on, then the answer is yes.
This is switched on when you use the pilcrow to display paragrapm marks and other non-printing formatting marks. You can select individual things to display under Advanced Options. |

The show/hide hidden chars is not selected and it is still showing all the TC fields and XE fields. Very frustrating....

Yes, this was the problem. I thought you were talking about the show hide button on the Paragraph group of the ribbon. It was in the options settings.

Note that the ¶ icon on the Home tab toggles the "Show all formatting marks" option at File > Options > Display. The ¶ will not affect any nonprinting marks that have been explicitly selected in the dialog box.
