Hi friends!

I have created a certain style in a certain doc. But being that I see it useful elsewhere I want it to appear in every doc, past and future.

So I went to the organizer and copied it to normal.dotm. Closed the organizer and returned to a different doc. The style is not there. Closed Word and reopened and opened an old file. The style is not there either.

(Ifr i use the organizer to copy styles from one doc to another it does show up)

What am I doing wrong?

It looks like the bottom line (and this is what I see happening)

1. If you start a NEW doc (NewDoc. docx) based on normal.dotm that doc will get all the styles in Normal.dotm and retain them for life.

BUT BUT BUT... if you after that add any style to normal.dotm and then reopen NewDox.docx Even though it was created based normal.dotm the style you added after the creation will not show up in newdoc.docx.

However if you added macros to the normal.dotm after you created NewDoc.docx, thos macros WILL BE AVAILABLE the next time you open NewDOc.docx

Do I get an A++ grade?

While doesn't make too much sense to me we will live with it.

The whole point of that approach is that the document can be changed without it affecting the template unless intentional action is taken, e.g. checking the box marked "New documents based on this template" whenever it appears on a dialog.

Styles in a document can automatically be updated from the template if the "Automatically update document styles" option is checked, but this only updates styles that are marked in the document as in use, and it is considered bad practice to have this option on.
