Default I want to have a basic TOC on the left attached to header

Hi there

I'm trying to have a simple TOC on the left hand side of my page which repeats on every page, enabling the user to click to where they want to be (this will most likely be sent out as a pdf), however, when I try to update (using F9 or right click) it doesn't. The document will be landscape (screenshot attached). This has to be used in a template doc going forward, so any help much appreciated!!
Thank you
Debbie

  • The Navigation Pane already does this. Why reinvent the wheel?
  • If in the Header it must be constrained to a single page and it will not have clickable hyperlinks in Word (although it can in a pdf convercsion).
  1. Go into your Header.
  2. Create a Text Box where you want your TOC. This can be with or without a border. Text should be set to wrap around it.
  3. Insert the TOC inside the text box.

Word uses the Navigation Pane to provide this functionality. In Acrobat, the same thing is called Bookmarks. I would strongly recommend you allow those features to be used instead of creating a home-cooked solution with links on the actual page.
