Angry Setup the structure of my very complicated index which is broken up into sub-indexes

I am depressed. Sorry for letting it out here...

I have setup the structure of my very complicated index which is broken up into sub-indexes etc.

Source index
>> Ancient sources
>> Modern sources

Index of names
>>Ancient People
>>Modern People

Place Index
>>Americas
>>Europe

Concept Index
>>Hard concepts
>>Easy concepts

etc etc.

So now I am beginning to enter the index entries (all manually using AutoCorrect for the basic syntax and editing the details in each entry.)

I have set entries with AT like:

IND1 types out for me the right syntax for "Source index:ancientsources"

etc etc.

A pretty efficient and creative way to do things, would you agree?

But when I shift to see hidden text to edit the entry and then go back to hide the hidden text it ruins my formatting of the paragraph. Of course, I am using paragraph sryles for everything...

Can anyone relieve me of my anxiety?

Tanks to all

Susan

Are you saying that changing your View options changes the formatting of the entire paragraph?

Maybe you should post a sample document so we can see if the same thing happens on other machines.

Default Tahnks for the concern

The doc is over 400 pages long and is in Hebrew.

I have attempted to replicate the problem in a sample English doc and the problem does not occur.

I guess I am doomed to reformat things after entering an index entry

Have you considered using a concordance table for your index entries?

Default I discovered the problem

I have a friend (believe it or not who is a real Word-wizard. But charges for every minute of his assistance. He found the problem immediately:
here is what he said:

How did you enter the AC entries? By cutting and pasting? Answer YES

Choose plain text only for this AC entry and it will be OK.

Was right spot on.

He speaks only Hebrew, but if anyone wants to benefit from his help I could be a translater in real time

Thanks again to all!

Just a note that I changed the title of this thread from "Its been a long, hard, day..." to "Setup the structure of my very complicated index which is broken up into sub-indexes".
The titles have two purposes:
  • Draw attention of the volunteers who answer questions. The title tells the person who may have an answer whether or not the question is one on which he/she has knowledge and can contribute. A title that tells something about the question gives you a better chance of getting a quick answer. It also saves the time of the volunteers.
  • Help people searching the forum find answers. People looking get a list of threads and the title can help them pick the ones most likely to contain an answer to their own question.
See:
This is not to say that you are not having a long, hard, day! I don't want to minimize the pain of the experience. The conundrums found using Microsoft Word can do that. It is just that question titles are important to get the best answers.
