Default Pagination and TOC

The table of contents shows the location of the first chapter as page 3 as opposed to page 1. I have introduced a section break past the first text page, so no page is shown in page 1.

Given that this is a problem on the first chapter only while the rest are shown correctly in the TOC, I suspect the problem may lie in my page numbering.

Yes your page numbering is definitely the problem. You have set the page number to start at 3 in both the second and third sections.
Right click in the top margin of the second page and select Edit Header.
On the Header & Footer tab of the ribbon click Page Number to display the menu, then select Format Page Numbers.
You will see that page numbering is set to start at page 3. Change this to whatever you want it to be.
Repeat for the third section starting on the third page.

Thanks Italophile, for a quick and accurate solution. Now I learned than one can check or specify a page number in pages that do not display it. Now, my next step would be to include the Heading 1 title of each chapter in the even page header and Heading 2 in the odd page header plus the display of the page numbers as already shown. Can this be done?
