Disable protected view in Microsoft Word (old .doc file)
I wonder if anyone can help with this ?
I am an extensive user of Word but recently I have tried to open one of my old files only to find that there is a error message saying ..... "Proteced view. Editing this file type is not allowed due to your policy settings. Click for more details." Clicking for more details takes me to another screen which doesn't give me much help ! I have done numerous researches on Google , all to no avail. The best item I found follows below but doesn't work ...... or I am doing something wrong ! The item follows now ..... "1. Open Word 2.Click on file and choose 'Options' 3. Click 'Trust Centre'. 4. Open 'Trust Centre Settings'. 5. Click 'Protected View'. 6.Check the options that you want to enable 7. Click 'OK' to save changes. 8 To disable protected view , uncheck all 3 options listed in 6. above" I include the above return from my researches because , to me , it is concise and clear ...... but I cannnot get it to work. Please help if you can. Regards , TerryD |

What is the file type? Are they .doc files?
Is it stopping you from opening the file at all or just stopping you from editing? If you can open the file, do a SaveAs and make them docx files.

Thanks for your reply. It is much appreciated.
The problem I have only applies to one file and it is a .doc file. I can read the file but cannot edit it. I cannot change the .doc to .docx and cannot save the file to get the same result. As you will have seen from my original post , there are numerous solutions that I have seen in the media but the clearest solution did not give me a positive result. Surely , someone somewhere must be aware of this issue and have a workable solution to the problem ? |

Is this on a corporate network or your own computer?
What is the source of the file? I assume that you cannot, under File > Info use the Convert button. Can you post a screenshot showing the error message? How to attach a screenshot in this forum. |

Perhaps you can get back to a useable file if you create a new blank document and then go to Insert > Object > Text from file

Disable protected view in Microsoft Word
Sorry for the delay. In reply to Charles Kenyon , the document is one that I typed ome years ago and which I have on my own desktop computer. I do not need to post a screenshot , as you will read in what follows ! The reply to me from Guessed was able to give the simple answer as follows Prepare a blank Word document on another window , go back to the window with the document on it then , with the cursor, highlight the document , then press /Copy/ , go back to the blank document and press /Paste/. Thanks to all for their help. Regards TerryD |
