Strange markings in Normal and Heading 1 Style
As in the image, the Normal.dotm has these strange markings under the sample text. They were not there before.
I noticed this behavior, when I decreased the font point in Heading 1. Any idea what those markings are and how do I get rid of them? Will they affect new documents in the future? Thanks in advance. |

Why are you getting so concerned about sample text in a dialog box? It's just a mock-up of how text may appear with those settings.
It it's really bothering you, just put some sample text in a document and apply the modified style. Then you can prove to yourself whether it has any effect. |

I agree.
The time to worry about it is when you use the style and something weird shows up. The mock-up in the dialog box can be helpful but is often somewhat different from what will appear. What you are seeing is likely an artifact of your monitor settings and Word's inner workings. The dialogs in Word are more than 30 years old and may not have adapted to the latest in display technology. Do not be discouraged, though, from asking questions about Word here or on other forums. The people who answer questions tend to be a bit jaded as to the conundrums that Word can toss out. The following quotation is more than 25 years old from an experienced and knowledgeable user. It remains true. |

Do you see these markings in the actual text, after you have closed the Font dialog box with OK?

Yes, everything appears fine.
I'm not panicked about it, just curious. I've been using Word for many years and this is the first time I'm seeing these markings. |
