I've received a layout from designers and I need to create the word template for that, with preconfigured styles and hierarchic list relying on these styles.


A challenge I have is that the first section have a number two times bigger than the title itself and should share the vertical space :





In the hierarchic table I can apply of course the font, horizontal alignment, etc :





I tried the vertical offset, but the bottom of the number disappears :





The only solution I found right now is to create a text box on front of the number containing a reference to that section, and put the number in blank ( for the sake of security in case of the text box switches ). But its not very convenient, and the "references & index" is not something very stable when you set that in the hands of end users.


Is there a way to display the whole native number of the hierarchic list, but covering two lines in height ?

Start by putting the 2/ in a paragraph by itself in a paragraph above the red text in your example. Then pick a paragraph style that isn't used for anything else (or create a custom paragraph style).

Now modify that paragraph style to make its font size big eg 2.5x the size of the 'Autres style' in your screenshot. Now while you are modifying the style, go to Format > Frame and set the wrap around and left align.

Once you see the result, you can fiddle the size of the font for that style to get the top and bottom alignments dialled in. After that you just apply the style when you need that visual effect

Creating Frames in Word

Thanks for comments; however text box or frames, unless if I miss something, will uncouple the title "Autre Styles" and its numbering "2" that I want to be automatic.


Its why now, the "Autre Styles" has a numbering hidden ( I mean, font white ), and the "2" is a reference.


Thanks for your tips, anyway.

The advantage of frame formatting is that it can be incorporated into a paragraph style.
