Default Using text frames in the Footnote area

Hi friends!

I feel guilty having to drive everyone crazy about this again and again but it is a critical part of my work, so please do forgive me

1. You cannot draw a standard text from in the FN area.
2. You can insert a frame from the objects panel (like the one that is used in drop caps) and then write it in the FN area.
3. To automate this I was instructed by a link posted here to format text in that frame and then save it as a style. In the future, if I write text and apply that style it will automatically be inside a frame and then can be dragged to the FN area
4. However what I see is that you have to write the text and apply to correct style in the main text area and then drag it as above. If you write it in the FN area and apply the style it doesn't do its thing.

This makes it a little tedious and because I require hundreds of these frames I was hoping there is an easier way.

Any ideas?

Thanks again

Susan

The key is to have a Style you can apply.
With a Frame, this will be a paragraph style.
You may want to base your new style on the Footnote Text style.

Default Thank You but....

As I wrote I followed the instructions in those links and when I apply the style to text in the FN area it DOES NOT put it in a frame, but only when the text is in the regular area and I have to drag it down which is really annoying.

Yo cannot insert a frame in the FN area only in the main text area and than drag it, so am I stuck?

As I said I need hundreds of margian texts in the FN area so I am really desperate.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Susan

Can you attach a document that shows what it is you are trying to do?

Default Margin text in FN area

All my docs are in Hebrew.

But I hope I was expressing myself clearly. I am working on a scholarly document with the ancient text "Up Top" and my research notes in the FN. So the "meat" of the doc is all FN.

And I want to put a text in the margin (in the FN as above) to draw the reader's attention to the point I want to make in my notes (the FN).

As I said the only way I can see to do this is to create a frame on top and drag it but it is not connected to the text and it is really tedious.

Am I coming across clear?

Thank for the concern

Susan

You have already identified the only way to achieve what you are trying to do. As that obviously doesn't work for you perhaps you should rethink how you draw the reader's attention to your notes.

What you describe doesn't sound like the best way to present 'the meat' of the document. Putting all of your notes at the bottom of the page separates it from the reference. Instead, I would use a side by side layout where the ancient text is on one side of the page and your content sits beside it.

Your choices would then be to do this with:
  1. a two column section page setup;
  2. a two column table; or
  3. a one column layout with a huge margin on one side and lots of floating frames or shapes sitting in that margin area

I learned something here and have amended my page on Frames and Textboxes to advise against trying to use them in the Footnote area.
