How to check if a document is unsaved?

Hello,

Is there anyway to be noticeably informed when I make any modification to a document and don't save it in Office 2019 like a '*' character before a file name, e.g.
"*unsaved.docx"?

It is especially frustrating for me as the only way to know if a file was modified is when I shut down the MS Office.

Sorry if this question is too obvious and trivial, I just don't use MS products very often

I do not know for Word 2019, but in Word 2021 it indicates in the Title bar whether the document has been saved and whether saved to the computer or OneDrive. (When saved to OneDrive/SharePoint it simply says Saved.)

On my computer, this is in the top left corner of the Word window.
If the QAT is displayed above the Ribbon, it will be pushed to the right.

Thanks for the answer, In Office 2019, I feel like there is no indication whether the file has been modified or not, which is pretty sad.

Ctrl+S is your friend! If the file is unmodified, it does not do anything.

The following macro could be attached to a keyboard shortcut.

The presence of this in Office 2021 indicates that feedback from others was listened to.

I would take a look at that macro but having an auto save like the one you mentioned is
totally awesome. I had no idea that such an add-in existed.

Yet, I still have a question, as a Linux user, why is it not open source !?!?!? hahaha
