Default How to transfer styles

Hi. I have some old scripts for actors. These have lots off styles like dialouge. I need to transfer the styles across from a new scrip. with difrent margin settings. I could open up a blank new document and copy and paste but that might copy the old styles and overwrite the new style. I have lot's of older scripts to go through.

TA.

Desmond.

To transfer styles, you can use the Organizer.

Hi, Desmond.

Yes, you can copy Styles. If you have your existing script with the styles you want open, go to the Styles panel on your Home ribbon, expand to see more, and in the Styles panel that comes up, find Style Manager, click that button. In the lower left corner of the Style Manager window will be Import/Export.

You can copy your Styles from your old document to your Normal.dot template, but you can also switch to your existing document (or a new Script Template, which would be a good suggestion if you're planning on writing scripts in the future). This video does a pretty good job of showing you the steps; even though it's only four minutes you could probably skip the first minute where she's only highlighting the existing styles themselves.

If you want your styles in the [Quick] Styles Gallery, you can also use [Quick] Styles Sets to add styles / change styles in Word.

I agree that setting up a template and creating your scripts using the template is a good idea.

Actualy that is not what I want. I have lots of styles in each. These styles have identical name.

for example
Style: Charecter in one has left margin 4.5cm, Right margin 4.0cm. The new one has left margin 5.4 and right margin 4.5. I would have to go through each style and phisically change the margins and all other settings to agree. I would have to repeat this with 50 other script documents. This would take past christmas.

I need to updte style charecter, dialouge etc with the new correct margins. Not import a style.

Icould make a script.dot document but if pasted the script from another old script, it would take the margind=s acroos or would it leave the margins from the new .dot alone?

Margins are not part of styles: Indents can be.
Margins and Indents in Word

You should not be adjusting margins when what you need to be adjusting is indents. Doing so makes for hopelessly complex documents.
