Question How to stop symbols from activating autocorrect?

hellooo

I have added custom words to auto correct which i use a lot however certain codes are separated by the "_" symbol.

e.g. "y_sq" would auto correct to "Yellow Square"

but whenever i try to type it will autocorrect when i press the "_" button.

e.g. before I can finish typing "y_sw" it becomes "Yellow_sq"

The only solution I have now is using Ctrl+z each time it autocorrects, but this becomes an issue as I have some codes seperated by multiple underscores

e.g. "y_sq_bg_12" = "Big 12cm Yellow Square"

I do hope this can be fixed

I would ask why you use the underscore which requires two keystrokes.

Wouldn't life be better if you used
ysq
ysw
ysqb12 etc

None of them are real words (so won't trigger unwanted replaces) and faster to type without the underscore.

You have chosen to use one of AutoCorrect's triggers to substitute a word and it is picking the first in your list. You want them unique up until a trigger (which is often punctuation).
  1. Do not start the phrases with the same letter sequences.
  2. I start some of mine with the underscore so that it won't pick up my ordinary typing.
Andrew's suggestions are good ones, as well.

I'm making a program for my work and I was utilizing some of the conventions we have that already exist because I'm used to them by now.

It's just a shame I didn't realize this issue would come up until I've already added over one hundred of these auto correct terms

i just wanted to know if it were salvageable, I will take Guessed's advice and just reconfigure them all

To reconfigure them all, use Jay Freedman's AutoCorrect2007 utility. It will create a Word document as a table with your entries.
You can change the trigger in that table, then run the restore function to get them the way you want.
