Default Can't update link for linked object

Hi there,

I am trying to use linked objects (using paste special, paste link) to update a compilation document based on text from several other documents. The links are working ok, and the text in the compilation is updating when changes are made to the original documents (as long as the original document and the compilation are both open when changes are made).

The problem arises when I update or change the name of the original source document. The link stops working, I get "The item name "OLE LINK21" of link: xxxxx cannot be found. Then, if I go to update/change the source to point to the renamed document, I get this "The server application, source file, or item cannot be found, Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, renamed, or blocked by policy".

Am I updating the links incorrectly, or is there any way for me to relink the text back to the source after the filename has been changed?

Many thanks,

Emlyn.
