I would like to invoke elsewhere in the file the data entered in the field. The purpose is to partially automate the document creation. How can I do this?

You have a number of options. The most trouble-free in set-up and implementation is described in the first two links. The third link gives you a multitude of ways.


P.S. What you are showing in your image are not form fields but Content Controls. Finding information online about these depends on using the correct terms.

Thank you for the information. Part of the problem would seem to be solved. However, I now have another issue.

I think I need both tools. The fields to report text in different positions; The content control to create a form that can be expanded as needed.

The idea is to create a form with customer information, in which I can enter multiple customers/nominates, multiple counterparts, or multiple contact persons. However, the exact number cannot be determined in advance, so I would have to be flexible....

Would there be a way to combine the two tools?

I am unsure what you are asking for here.

You do not want fields, or at least not legacy formfields in the same document as content controls. I am using the term "field" in its Word jargon meaning.

You want to be designing a template which is used to create new documents, not a document.
The simplest thing to do is create multiple templates for different numbers of customers.

When you say "a content control to create a form that can be expanded as needed" are you referring to the Repeating Section Content Control?
That cannot be used with ANY of the methods for repeating data because the areas to be repeated must be unique.
The Repeating Section Content Control is going to use the same bookmark or mapped content control.

If you use multiple templates, shared parts of those could be saved as AutoText or some other kind of Building Block.


If you want one template than can handle different numbers of customers, that is going to require some kind of programming, probably macros and a UserForm.
Again, multiple templates would be much simpler to create if not to maintain.

Thank you very much for the precious suggestions. I confirm that I meant the function "Repeating Section Content Control".

In any case, in light of your explanations I decided, as you suggested, to make several templates. Creating macros (leaving aside the fact that I do not have the computer skills) could potentially create problems with the company's security system.

Again, content to be shared in the various templates could be stored as AutoText in a Global Template and expressed, used in the individual templates through the AutoText Field. If you do this, you would want AutoNew macrros in the document templates that update the AutoText fields and then unlink them. That way, if the common text is updated, it only would need to be updated in the template holding the AutoText.

I or someone else here can provide you with such macros.
