Then how to check the spelling and grammar of the text inside the “SmartArt” shapes?

I still have no reason to think that Word will do this.
This is not text in the base document layer. For many years it would not proof text inside shapes/textboxes, either.

I submitted a research paper, and during the peer reviewing process, reviewers found out some spelling mistakes in my SamrtArt shapes!

The issue is that the Word has no power to check the text spelling inside the shapes

It appears that there is no way to get Word to spell check the smart art, nor will it check the words that appear in other graphic formats.

In the case of Smart art, you 'can' copy the text from the dialog where you edit it and paste it into the body of the document to spell check it there. Certainly not a great way to work but it does provide a pathway to spell check your smart art content

I discovered that PowerPoint does check the spelling within the SmartArt. Simply copy and paste the SmartArt into PowerPoint, perform the spell check there, and then transfer it back to Word

I generally tell people who want more sophisticated Graphics tools within Word to use PowerPoint. One more reason, I guess.
