Default tab key arrows first character

word 2007 question.

how do i display "tab key arrows" when it is the first character? i do have the backward P button toggled on. i can see "tab key arrows" if i place a character before it, not if it is the first one in the sentance.

windows xp/office 2007

thanks

Non-printing characters are either displayed or not. In your picture of the document, they are on. I suspect the circled area is an indent, not a tab.

i insert a tab character by pressing the tab key.

that is not an indent, unless hitting the tab key is an indent.

thanks for the reply

If you press the tab key at the beginning of a line (not sentence), Word assumes you want an indent and converts it.
