A Word2007 file formatted as a 68 page booklet(print on both sides) and numbered from 1 to 68 on the bottom of page, after being printed by HP printer shows an error on page 6. The number 6 is there but the number 63 is also there beside it. Page 63 is on the same sheet face with page 6 and is blank where the number should be. I have attached an image of the sheet in question. I tried to correct the problem by deleting all of the numbers from the file, saving the unnumbered file and then renumbering it but the subsequent printout still had the error in question. Thanks for any help on his in advance.

We can't do much to advise without seeing how your footers are formatted.

Are you saying the page imposition is all manually done in this document? Or do you have a normally numbered source file which is being used to print the imposed pages in a two-up layout.

The file was started by opening a new blank file in ms word, selecting Page Layout then Page Setup. In the Margins page Book fold was selected and the margins were set all around and a gutter value assigned. Then on the Paper page the size of the paper was selected at 11"x5.5".On the Layout page, the headers and footers were selected and
Different first page and Different odd and even boxes were left unchecked. From there the number of formatted blank pages were increased to 68. Then from the Insert tab, Insert Page Number, Bottom of Page were selected, then all of the page numbers were automatically inserted into the footer of all of the pages. From there the data was inserted for each page to finish the file.The printer was set to print on both sides of each sheet, landscape, two pages on each side. Then the error on page 6 was observed.

If you are pasting in the content after setting the headers and footers you need to be careful that the introduced content does NOT contain any section breaks. You may discover there is an extra section break around page 6 that you weren't expecting.

Also using Insert Page Number can give you a floating shape with the page number in it. This can be a little unreliable and I would recommend you insert a page field to allow you more control with the field behaving like any other text field.

Thanks for your reply. I tried putting the page numbers by doing a footer edit then inserted quick parts, selected field, then page, then format 1,2,3 and applied this to page 1, then all the following pages in the file automatically appeared in correct order. I printed the complete file after that but the same page 6 error was still there. I'm afraid that with all of the cutting and pasting and editing data during the initial stages of putting this file together some kind of bug was introduced and the file is beyond repair. Earlier on when I thought the file was finished a .pdf copy was made from the .docx file. The printout of the .pdf file was clean, the numbering was correct, including page 6 and page 63. However in the .pdf file printout many of the even numbered pages margins were oriented the same as the odd pages. No help there. I'm done. Thank you for all of your attention to this.
