Default Insert Page Error

I've created a eight-page document in Word 2007 and inserted the Page 1 of X in the header. Whenever I open this document, the header shows Page 1 of 3. If I open the header section, it changes to Page 1 of 8. Why does this happen and is there any way to fix this so it shows Page 1 of 8?

Default Page error

Boy, that's an interesting one. I was handed a somewhat similar problem the other day, but it concerned an auto-numbered heading that had gone awry, skewing the section numbering.

I would suggest deleting the page numbers, both, and inserting the fields again. I assume that you are using Insert Page Number and adding the NumPAges field.

Be sure, when you delete the fields, that they have disappeared from all eight pages of your document.
