Hi all,

is there any trick to repeat 1st word at next page on the current page?

i can't explain it in words, i'll give the picture

from that picture, is there a trick that can add automatically add the 1st word at 2nd pages on the 1st page? -- in this case, the word is "Pellentesque"

thank you

This is a great question and my mind is tickled by a faint memory from over 25 years ago when phone books had header/footers showing breadcrumbs to the first three letters of previous and trailing surnames. I'm pretty sure that concept was the example used to introduce me to StyleRef fields in headers.

I'll do a search to see what I can find. There may be a way to do this but I just can't think of what it might be.

You can create a character style which doesn't actually change the formatting and apply it to the appropriate words.

In the document footer, use { STYLEREF "Character Style Name Here" \L }.

The \L switch instructs Word to search from the bottom of the page (or the previous page).

A problem with this is if you have something in that style at the end of every page, the StyleRef Field will always pick the one on the current page. I suppose you could use two styles, alternate them between even and odd pages and use different headers on even and odd pages.

This might well be a solution for a finished manuscript, but it is not dynamic and if you add/subtract text everything will be messed up.

Good point, Charles. I should have done more thorough testing.
