			Hi Friends!

I am sorry for bothering you with what may be a no-brainer for others but I am not able to decern myself how to do this. On page 34 (for example) I want to reference another location in the doc like "We will discuss this more on page #$%". Now I will not know what page that actually is until the whole doc is finished, but I want it to be correct the whole time I am working on the doc so I will have to update it in real-time. I looked at cross references but I could seem to find what I need, which is simply a reference to a page number. Thank You Susan |

			Hi, Susan,

Actually, it sounds like you were about 80% there... Bookmark and cross-reference will get you there, you just have to select the reference as a page number rather than the Bookmark Text. This article (How to update a page number reference in a Word document | TechRepublic) gives a pretty good walk-through with some images. When you have your relevant spot bookmarked, where you want to insert your cross reference (Insert/Cross Reference), you'll select Reference Type as Bookmark and on the upper right, Insert Reference to: change that to Page number. You may have to update that if/when it moves to a different page, but if you print or print preview, those links should update. Best of luck, Ann |

Glad it made sense and worked. I usually need a visual cue, so YouTube videos and blog tutorials with images really help me. I learn so much here myself - happy to share anything I do actually know.

One thing - if other people are working on the same documents as you, you might want to make sure they have "show bookmarks" turned on in File/Options/Advanced (it's checkbox under "show document content" there), so they realize where the bookmarks are and don't type or backspace them out. Been there, done that.
