Disable Word File Locking?
When an MS Word file is in use, I mean open and being edited. It seems to lock the file, so nothing else can be done to it. Also, I see the temp file it makes in the directory. My question is, can this be overridden or changed so that another application can read the file's contents?
For example, if I have a file open in Word and I want to import it into Adobe InDesign, the dialogue will complain that the file is not ready. This is the case even if you have just saved it. I want to be able to access the instantly saved version. Of course, I do not want to corrupt the data in the file. Does anybody know how? Thank You |

I believe this is built into Windows, not Word.
It would appear to be a fault in the other program which should be importing the file, not opening it for editing. |

Charles is correct--it appears to be a problem with the adobe program (shocker, I know). If you attempt to open an already open Word document in an Office program, you are told it's locked and are given options, including viewing the document in read-only mode.
Immediate options would be to either close the file in Word and then open in the other program, or make a copy of the file and open that in the other program. |

Word creates an owner file, when you are working with a document. This is a type of temporary file that prevents editing in another program at the same time. For more, see Description of how Word creates temporary files - Microsoft Support.
