Default [Word 97] Selecting Spaces Between Words with Styles Set

If I have a style set, and then I desire to alter the style manually, I find that Word does Not select the spaces, and retains the style. After selecting, if I go back and select the spaces separately, Word then changes them.

Example:

(Style Set):
1.1 Title Case Bold and Underlined

After 1st Selection (1.1 and spaces to right)
1.1 Title Case Bold and Underlined

(After 2nd Selection, spaces only, yielding desired result)
1.1 Title Case Bold and Underlined

QUESTION 1:

Is this by design or a work around ?

QUESTION 2:
Anyway to set a Style for the Desired Result (note: 1.1 will vary, e.g. 1.1.1)?

First, "style set" is a jargon term in Word these days.
[Quick] Style Sets

That is not how you are using it.

Set your Heading 1 style to be underlined and bold.
See How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Menu Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly for instructions on how to set your numbering attached to styles.

In the new define multilevel list dialog change the font to be underlined.

Mr. Kenyon:

Thanks.
I figured there must be a way.

I have found now, how to setup one Style so the following lines after the first line -- in my case -- are left indented. This saves having to have two styles (one for the first line and one for lines after).

Currently, working on a Trial Memoranda, but when I get a bit of extra time, will update my thread on the above, with HowTo:

If you, or other persons on this forum are a VET, as I am:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE on this Memorial Day.

Regards,
David
