Word 2003 message that dialog box is open
Hi
Is there a forum for Word? I still have an old Word 2003 which is perfect for me. On new installations it asks for an activation key which now is quite simple. You choose to phone and it automatically states that it is activated, However, on a trial basis when I open a .doc file I get a message in a box which I attach. A few moments later, the document opens anyway. Is there a way of getting rid of this box? The box is possibly related to the one where I have to introduce the key that I get from the phone call to MS. However, it seems that MS no longer answers those calls and prefers to validate automatically. SO, what phappened to that box if I did not close it?... I tried restarting and I still get it Thanks |

This is the forum for Word, including Word 2003, although many of us are using later versions. It is surprising how many of the quirks remain the same.
Your profile says Office 2010 and Windows 7. Is that mistaken? The error message box looks like something from Windows 11. Many error messages in Word are misleading or triggered by something that should really give a different message. However, this one may mean that another instance of Word is open. Check your Windows task manager. |

"Your profile says Office 2010 and Windows 7"
Yes, it is a mistake or maybe I registered a longtime ago when I had Windows- Never had Word 2010 When I open Word all loks normal. I only get that message when I try to load a .doc file that I saved earlier As you can see from the attachment there does not seem to exist more than one instance of Word open I think this has to do with the validation of the download. Maybe I did not close the box. If that is the case I will have to uninstall Word and start agian hoping that MS validates the new download.... Thanks |

If you go to File > Open and right-click on a file and choose Open, you will get this message because the FileOpen dialog is open. If you double-click on the file, it should open. If you click on the Open button in that dialog, it will open as well.

Hi
Many thanks. While working out what you wrote I came to the conclusion that is I open a document from the Documnets folder. I don't get any boxes and I just need to press with the left button of the mouse. The problem I had was due to the fact that I was testing with a recent test file that I placed on the Desktop. Then, yes, if I click on it, the boz appears, but if I press OK the box disappears and after a short delay of a few seconds the file opens normally- I tried again by bringing a document onto the Desktop and that box appears. I put the doc back where it belongs and no box comes up. I hate this Windows11!!! Thank you |

Go to your user profile (https://www.msofficeforums.com/member.php?u=15433) and click on Edit User Profile. It is not obvious, I know. It took me a while to find it myself when I had to do it. The box for messages is obvious and below this. |
