Default Table of Contents: Two lines in doc body, want one line in ToC

Wasn't sure how to sum this up in my Topic Title....

In the body of my document, I'd like each chapter to start off with "Chapter X" centred at the top of a new page, and then on the next line, the name of the chapter, also centred. But in the ToC, I would like it to appear as "Chapter X: Title Of Chapter" and then the dot leader with page number. Is this doable?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm pretty sure you can achieve this as long as you use a manual line break (SHIFT + Enter) rather than just a paragraph break (Enter). At least, this worked for me.

Thanks, kilroy. It *almost* works - except that in the body I don't want any punctuation after the chapter number, and in the ToC I'd like a colon.

So, in body:

Chapter 1
Text for topic of chapter

In ToC:

Chapter 1: Text for topic of chapter

Is that doable?

Yes, but it is not simple. You will need to use two different styles and then use a TC (Table Entry) field with StyleRef fields as the basis for your TOC.
