Default Help with date picker content field

I have a strange issue with a date content field. When you click on the field and use the date picker, the calendar that pops up is set to when the date field was added to the document instead of today's date.

A small issue but kind of annoying. In my attached screenshot, the field was added July 2020. So to use the picker for a recent date, you need to click over quite a bit.

Any suggestions on how/if to fix?

I guess that you would need a macro to change this behaviour.

I normally just hit the Today button to jump to the current month (rather than clicking the little triangle lots of times) and then make my selection.

Is this the behavior in an existing document or a new document created from a template?

I would expect it to update in the latter situation.

While I still use CreateDate fields more than I do the DatePicker Content Controls, both act similarly in new documents created from a template in that they update to the current date.

This is just one minor reason to be using templates and creating new documents based on them. There are many more.
Templates in Microsoft Word

By the way, it is a "Content Control" not a field. You will get funny results searching for help on a date picker field.

If this is in new documents created from a template, please write back with more information.
