Default Index Quran Reference

Hello,

I've been trying to index Quran references (e.g., Q.2:34) into my research paper, but I am unable to list them all below each other as shown below:

Q.23:34, 4
Q.65:37, 8

I have all the entries listed in a concordance file.

Any thoughts?

What do you actually need help with? An index should work nicely to arrange your index items below each other.

Perhaps your problem is the colon: which is a special character and needs to be 'escaped'. The Index field should look like this
{XE "Q.23\:34"}
in order to build the index correctly.

Is that \ escape character getting inserted when you do the auto-indexing with the concordance file? If not, you could do some a search and replace to find each field with a colon in it and add the \

Thank you. This indeed fixed it. However, I have two problems now:

1) I want these verses to be organized in their numerical sequence, which MS Word does automatically; however, it is having some issues where it lists verses not in order. I want the verses to be organized according to the value of the digits before the ":" For example, currently, it lists Q.111:32 before verses Q.2:56, but I want the verses that belong to Q.2 to be before the verses that belong to Q.111...etc.

2) Since I am using a concordance file to create this index, is it possible to point out that there are different concordances in this document?

For these complex numbers the sorting is alphabetical.
Thus Q.111:32 will come before Q.2:56 but would come after Q.002:56.

As Charles has said, you may need to include the leading zeros in your index entries in order to sort the list numerically. Those leading zeros wouldn't need to appear in the body of the document itself, just the XE tag (and hence the resulting Index)

I'm not sure what you mean by 'different concordances'. If you mean that you want to tag index entries so that you can have multiple indexes then you can use a \f tag or \b tag as ways to limit the index entries shown to a specific attribute or region of the document. See
Redirecting or
Multiple Indexes in a Document (Microsoft Word)
