Word has started to give me repeated error messages that freeze the program. The error message states "Word cannot create the work file. Create a temp environment file." The error message does not go away until after repeated clicks of the ok button. Does anyone know what this means or how to address it? Thank you.

The error message reads: "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable." Does anyone know what the temp environment variable is or how to check it and/or reset it so the error message stops? Thank you.

I haven't faced that issue personally, but I do see a detailed article on addressing it in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 environments.

It involves editing the Registry, so if you're on a company computer, you might need to involve your IT person and/or have administrative rights.
