Conditional Word Styleref Fields
Hello all:
My name is Father Wayne Paul, I am an Episcopal (Anglican) Priest (will be observing my 40th year in the priesthood this April) and I am somewhat proficient in Microsoft Word. I am selftaught in VBA, and I have a background in Printing. (Linotype and Hand set) I have a problem though when it comes to styleref fields for footers. I know how to set up footers for First, Odd, and Even pages. Normally I will set up pages with "Style 1" on the Odd pages and "Style 2" on the Even pages. But what field contruction would I use if I wanted to have "Style 3" used when it appears on a page and then revert back to "Style 1 or 2" on the following pages? I just cannot seem to get my head wrapped around this. I have tried various field contructions, but to no avail. If someone could provide me with a sample document, it would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your help, Father Wayne Paul Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 01-12-2023 at 02:24 PM. |

Thank you for your service.
The StyleRef Field refers to getting text in a given style and repeating it. The Style 1, Style 2, etc. would be styles used in the body of your document. You could use different StyleRef fields in your different headers and footers. Here is my Header/Footer Settings Recap. While you probably want different arrangements or organizations in your different headers and footers, I'm not sure what the StyleRef field has to do with that. Here is an excellent reference on things you can do with the StyleRef field: Useful StyleRef tricks by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP Word comes with a selection of fancy Headers and Footers and Page Numbers that you can use and edit. It is important to edit those rather than picking a new one. For instance if you have a good header and want to add a page number, do not pick a page number from the gallery for the top of the page or it will replace your header. Instead go into it and add the page number at the current location. For that matter, you do not have to use those galleries at all. Automated Boilerplate Using Microsoft Word Finally, you should be building a template that you can use again and again and has your headers and footers in it. Templates in Microsoft Word Microsoft used to have a Quick Reference Page on Headers and Footers but it seems to have disappeared. I have reduced it to a pdf though.
