Question Calculating an average from 2 dropdown lists

Hallo, help please!

I am trying to create a robust feedback form for students where there are 2 marks (set up as dropdown lists because there are limited numbers you are allowed to use) and then the need for these marks to be averaged for the overall score.

I have tried to do this as a formula but either get no output or an error message. I have read up a bit on macros but increasingly confused!

Can anyone help me do this?

Details: I'm using Word for Mac 2016

Thanks...

Without at least knowing what kinds of dropdowns you're using, or what method you're using to calculate the averages (e.g. VBA, field coding), it's impossible to provide an answer.

Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Thanks for your reply Paul. I've attached the document. What I'm trying to do is get the two numerical marks in the yellow rows (which have dropdown lists to allow only limited numbers to be selected) to then produce an average overall mark in the blue row.

If you can help that would be great - I'd love to learn how to do this!

All you need do is:
1. Give each of the dropdowns a bookmark name (e.g. Theoretical, Manifesto); then
2. Insert a formula field on the 'Overall mark' line code as -
Code:
{IF{=({REF Theoretical}+{REF Manifesto})/2 }= "!*" "" {=({REF Theoretical}+{REF Manifesto})/2 \# 0.0}}
Note: The field brace pairs (i.e. '{ }') for the above example are all created in the document itself, via Ctrl-F9 (Cmd-F9 on a Mac or, if you’re using a laptop, you might need to use Ctrl-Fn-F9); you can't simply type them or copy & paste them from this message. Nor is it practical to add them via any of the standard Word dialogues. The spaces represented in the field constructions are all required.
