Default Making check boxes act like radio buttons

I made a pdf form with checkboxes for yes/no answers for my job and all was well until one of the managers stated that he needed to receive it in Word format

After trying a few times (and failing miserably - lol) I thought I'd ask here.

Basically, I have a table which has two separate questions that require EITHER a yes or a no answer, hence the need for a radio button for each. However, they also need to be shown as tick marks, not just a radio "blob".

This was fairly easy using Acrobat Forms (I could even re-size the checkbox size) but as I'm finding out, Word is a little bit more involved & I am very much a Noob at this.

So is there a way to do this guys and gals or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

TIA
PS, using Office 2007 btw.

This is problematical. Word 2007 cannot use check box content controls, which might have provided a solution, with the aid of some macro code. They were introduced in Word 2010.

Legacy check box form fields cannot display ticks like Acrobat forms and while ActiveX radio buttons would do the job, they cannot display ticks instead of 'blobs'.

Paul's has posted some alternative suggestions, but they do not match the original brief.

Anyone requiring a solution in a document using content controls for anything else is likely to also require checkbox content controls. Since Office 2007 doesn't support checkbox content controls, you won't be able to fulfil the requirement without upgrading Office to at least Office 2010. Otherwise, you'll have to craft something similar using formfields - but that may not be acceptable, either. Note that you should not use formfields and content controls in the same document.

In any event, IMHO, you'd do better to use a dropdown with Yes/No options.

Thank you for the in-depth replies. I have got Office later than 2007 available to me but it's on the Android Tablet/Phone that I use for work and tbh I hate trying to use them (even though the form will be used on Android) to try to create something as I would MUCH prefer to be able to have nice 17" Laptop screen (my own personal piece of kit) to work on.

I never actually thought of using the work Laptop either, so I suppose that could be an option as I think that uses a fairly up to date version of Office, albeit on a much smaller screen. Still bigger than the other options tho'.

I'll have a go on that and get back to you all to let you know if I managed to sort anything out.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Just realised that it will obviously be easier for yooz guys to give any advice if I actually let you see what I'm working on, so I've attached a couple of files to this reply.

One is the pdf file that is working OK as a form and the other is the word file that I am trying to create. At least with the pdf shown, you can see where I am trying to place the checkbox-style radio buttons if that helps.

Thanks again.

As I said, IMHO, you'd do better to replace the checkboxes with simple dropdowns requiring a Yes/No answer. Serves the same function, takes up less space and, most importantly, requires no code.

The phone/mobile versions of Word are far different programs from the desktop versions.
Compare Word features on different platforms - Office Support
Differences between using a document in the browser and in Word

Content Controls are not really used in the mobile versions. (Nor are legacy form fields nor macros.) They can be seen in the document but not used.
Stick with pdf forms. I do not know they will work in Android but know the Word ones will not.

That's all very well, but the OP has already told us in post #1 that a manager requires it as a Word document.

Thanks again peeps for all the replies and the advice.

I beginning to think, looking at the options available to me that it may well be better for me to leave as is.

I've made the Word document work on my Android tablet for the bits that I need to fill-in myself before it gets passed to the Manager by using the pen on my tablet to manually draw a tick mark in the required box or using an emoji tick.

I wanted to be able to make it work the same as the pdf form by simply tapping in each particular area but I'm seeing now that there are limits to what can be done that will transfer over to the Android versions OK.

Cheers anyway, it's appreciated.
