Default Manage and protect Building Blocks

Hi all,

I'd like a document to be 'assembled' from a template with pre-written text, Building Blocks and free text.
The Blocks should be managed/edited by certain users only.

Once entered in the document, a user can edit the contents of any block freely, but not save the edited block in the Gallery.
Only certain users should be allowed to edit the template.

The template will be in a shared folder (either OneDrive or local).

How can we achieve this?

Thanks!
Bart

Make the template containing the building blocks "Read Only" and do not give permissions to ordinary users to change this.
Where can Building Blocks be stored?

Store this global template on your network server and update local copies as part of the network login.

Thanks Charles, you mean by setting it to Read Only in the file system, right? Not by saving it with password protection against editing?

That is what I mean.
Of course you should keep backups.

The read-only is only needed if your people are accessing the templates directly from the network.

Again, my preference is to have both Global Templates and Workgroup Templates stored in a network location and copied to individual computers updating as a part of the login process. That way these resources are available regardless of the network connection and the user does not have access to the base template. I have not worked with networks for a long time. When I did, we used an XCOPY statement in the login script.

Just train your people that if they want to have their own versions, they need to store them in their own templates, not in the corporate ones. (Once or twice losing them due to overwrite will burn the training in!)

Excellent, thank you very much. I'll discuss this further with the network admins, I'm not savvy in that area either. But your remark about templates makes perfect sense.
