How to create a file that gets updated with information from “source” files
Good evening everybody,
I hope you are well. I know that you can use fields to retrieve the data contained in bookmarks from other books and add them to the destination file. However, when you add extra data to bookmark section, this extra data does not get reflected in the destination file. I guess it is because each time you add data to the source file you also have to re – define the bookmark content to include this new data? Would it be possible to retrieve data from headings rather than from bookmarks? Perhaps the best solution is by using some coding? Thanks Sanchez |

Then, each section must be also in the master file. I could use the InsertText field or I could copy and paste as a link so each time I modify each customer´s file I get the same amended items on the master file. However, imagine that I add new products to the "products we sell to the customer" for each customer. Those new lines, will not appear on the master file. Perhaps, the only solution is to write a macro? Thanks |

I would likely do what you are attempting using Mailmerge with a data file of customers and possibly separate files that contain the boilerplate info depending on fields in the data file.

I know a macro to do this on Excel, the macro opens the destination and the source books. Then copies the source books tabs and copies them onto the tab I choose on the destination book. Is there something similar for Word? I assume you can set up a macro that opens the books, then copies the headings/sections/bookmarks and puts them onto the destination file? Thanks again Sanchez |
