Default Problems with style sheets.

I do a lot of script writing stage pantomime and other stuff. The people I talk to on script writing forums tell me that I should not use MS Word. I should use the more professional software, however I grew up with MS office and created style sheets that work. I am attaching one for you to see.

I am facing a problem where to characters speak at the same time. This is called Dual Dialogue. The characters and their dialogue have to be side by side. I am showing you this sample which I received. Is there a way to do this in style sheets or is there a better way?

I would like to continue using Word as I am in total control of everything. Using profesional software you are at the mercy of bilt in inteligence.

Not with styles. (Word does not have Style Sheets; it does have [Quick] Style Sets, but that is not what you want.

You could do this using a borderless table, which could be saved as a Quick Table.

If you want to be able to use it by just typing a name and pressing Enter, you can save the Quick Table in your document template or your Normal template.

Firstly. I have always called them style sheets as they are styles on the ribbon. I am going to need help though with saving a borderless (quick table) table. How is that acheved?

I have inserted a simple table and to my suprise the styles can work within the cells. I was not expecting that. And with a bit of tinkering around by duplicating them I could make them look great. The positioning would have to be the same every time.

Also having problems with the brackets. As above the table (Being a bit coy)

The Styles on the Ribbon are a small subset of the styles in a document. They are designated as Quick Styles and can be part of Quick Style Sets.
Customizing the Quick Styles Gallery by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP

To create a borderless table and save it to Quick Tables
  1. Create a Table.
  2. Set it up for one speaker followed by two speakers.
  3. Select it.
  4. Under the Table Design Tab under Borders pick no borders
  5. With the table still selected, under Insert > Table > Quick Tables add it to the Gallery.

  6. If you want to use AutoComplete save it to some template other than the Building Blocks.dotx template. Preferably your document template or a global template. See AutoComplete - for AutoText and Other Building Blocks - Microsoft Community
  7. Give it a name that you can remember and that starts with unique characters you will not type by accident. I know of people using underscores_, the at symbol@, or an exclamation mark! at the start. This gives something that will show up at the top of the alphabetical order in galleries and makes AutoComplete work well. For instance your could name it @duoTable. If you have saved it for AutoComplete to work, when you type "@duot" a screentip will tell you to press Enter to insert your table. My _OWI_Interview table is such a table.
  8. You can also assign a keyboard shortcut to such a Quick Table. Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts in Microsoft Word 2007-2021 (365)

This is what I have in mind.
Your indents in your table were really messed up. I've attached an amended document. Note the formatting in mine was not done using styles.

Click to expand styles? You mean the Quick Styles on the Home tab?
That has nothing to do with Quick Tables.

A Quick Table is a Building Block. You can use styles in a Building Block but it is not a style.
  1. You can type the first four unique characters of your Quick Table building block's name and press Enter to insert if you stored it anywhere except the Building Blocks.dotx template.
  2. If it is in Building Blocks.dotx, you can, after typing enough of the name to distinguish it, press F3 to insert it.
  3. You can go under Insert Table > Quick Tables and pick your table from there.
  4. You could assign a keyboard shortcut to it.

Okay. Thanks. I deleted all the others anyway as I would not need them. I assume this is only for my scrip writing template and not to word as a whole.

Okay it changes all word quick tables but I don't mind as I would never use them. Thanks.

I just have to sort out why my quick style was messed up in my Dual2.docx
