Windows 10 stop word from automatically saving previous versions of documents

stop word from automatically saving previous versions of documents

When I open Word it gives me a list of available files, including, unfortunately, earlier saved versions of the same document, which is annoying and confusing!
How can I have Word list the last versions only?!!
