Default Embed editable PowerPoint template in Word

All,

I have a PowerPoint template that I would like to include as an appendix in Word. Since It's something a user must access and be able to edit/use in PowerPoint, since it's a template, I cant just copy and paste the slides in Word. When I embed the document, either as a file or object, it does open in PowerPoint, but can't be edited. It just immediately goes to slide show view. When I try to escape slideshow view, it closes the whole document, meaning it's not editable. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Hyperlink to the PP file instead of embed.

Unfortunately a hyperlink wont work either. The file needs to be sent to a wide audience without access to the same file path for the hyperlink. So it wouldn't have broad dissemination.

Not even if it were a shared OneDrive or Google Drive file?

Correct, there is no way to hyperlink the PowerPoint to a single point every recipient could access. That's why I wanted to embedd a version they could open and edit themselves.

If it's totally not possible, the PowerPoint could be emailed, but I was trying to include it in a single program manual

I think you should take another look of OneDrive at least. You share files for download via OneDrive providing Read access. Read access will still allow download. The write Access to the file located on OneDrive would be disallowed. After a User downloads the template file, they can interact with it normally. You would always have control of the file and could revoke read access and edit the file to update it.
The link to file could be issued in different ways, but you would likely need to use the "anyone with a link" option. One link for everybody and they would only see the path to that shared Folder/File. If they have a OneDrive account, it would be listed in their Shared Items.
If you are in an enterprise license of OneDrive, you will have better options.

If someone downloads the file, they would have the ability to edit it, just not the copy posted on OneDrive.

Double check your method of embedding/Inserting Object. Are you using the Tab "Create New" or "Create from File". I believe you should use "Create from File"

Thank you!
The file launched from the embedded Object likely will still need to be "Saved As..." on the End-users. It should end up in the Templates Directory with other PowerPoint Templates. Then they could create a new PPT presentation using the regular Template method.

I will try that and report back. Thank you. Unfortunately for one driver, the users may not have reliable internet access and not be behind our firewall. So it's really an embedded or email.
