Default did these "markers" get on my default file?

Hello,

This is my first post. I've encountered something in Word that I have no idea what it is, or how it got there (please see attached file).

How do I remove these lines from my otherwise blank page? It looks like they have something to do with margins.

Thanks!

We can't see what you see. The document is blank. It sounds like you have turned on the display of crop marks. To turn off, Tools > Options, View tab. Untick the Text Boundaries checkbox.

Crop marks can also be displayed as a by-product of installing Asian languages.

Thank you, Kimberly, for suggesting a solution. I tried what you said, but those are different marks. I'm going to describe it better this time, as I have a feeling you'll know what it is.

These marks look 2 small straight lines intersecting, at the top left and right margins. If I slide the margin scroller up or down, these two lines move with it. The one on the right looks like a letter L, while the one on the left faces the opposite way.

I looked for other possibilities in the Options area, but I'm still stuck.

Sounds like crop marks. You can remove Asian language support if they bother you.

Do they look like in this picture?

I don't think they don't hurt anything... they are not part of the document; no one will see them but you. In order to remove them, disable Asian languages by following these steps: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839371

I checked as per the link you sent re Asian languages, but I only have English enabled. I just noticed they're at the bottom of the screen too, the same kind of thing.

I haven't tried to print yet... when I did the print preview before my first post, I assumed you would be able to see them. Now that I know you can't, I'm less bothered.

Here's a "drawing" of them:

On the bottom of the page they're upside down.

The drawing of the lines came out funky in the thread... the lines intersect, like the letter L

I posted a link to a picture of crop marks and asked if this is what you see. Can you please answer that for me? Thank you.

I don't know if they'll print... you will need to test!

Thanks, Kimberly.

Yes, that is what they look like! Sorry, the first time I opened that up all I saw were the red circles.

But I checked for text boundaries and Asian languages!
