All my commas are appearing as blocks and Google has no answers. What gives?
Topic. I write in a text file, import to Word and then this happens. Not a huge deal but it makes it hard to read and I intend to publish eventually.
I've gotten some Google results about AutoFormat, but they are old and don't work. |

If you are importing a text file into Word then there will need to be a 'translation' step whereby Word has to interpret the content of the text file. Do you get shown a dialog when you imported the text file which asked for the text format?
Also, have you tried changing the typeface (font name) applied to the text. Does that make a difference to the comma characters?

Yes I did. Does that make a difference> Also, have you tried changing the typeface (font name) applied to the text. Does that make a difference to the comma characters? So I just change the font, is that it? |

1. Yes, in theory it makes a difference. YOU have the file - are you saying it is too difficult to test whether it makes a difference on your own file?
2. Yes, it could be as easy as finding a typeface that displays comma's so that they look like commas. Again, this is very simple for YOU to test if you have the file.

Thank you for your help. I was not trying to be obtuse. Does the dialog matter? I'll try the font.

Font does not do anything sadly

Perhaps you should post a sample text file that demonstrates the problem. If we can see the format of your text file we can suggest the correct method of importing it.

The blocks are messing things up.
It was a nest. A fucking nest, and theyfd walked into it like babies into a candy store. Ash dodged a claw swipe, shot a snarling demon in the face, and spun on his heel as his sword cut a blazing arc through the air, decapitating one mere inches before it could close on him. Talk about bad reconche had no idea how the gang had even survived this long in the City with intel like that. Well, they werenft alive now. The leader was the first to go ? hefd been gutted like a fish on a pike and thrown to the ground before Ash even had time to get his guns out. Most of the gang followed, and he hoped that at least some of them got awaycbut right now he had plenty to deal with himself. |

"Topic. I write in a text file, import to Word and then this happens."
Curious as to why you use this method? Why bother with the "Text" file and what text application are you using? |

I recall writing the file in Word, no idea where all the blocks are coming from. I use Notepad I said earlier.

The text you pasted into the forum is already problematic. I note that your stated problem was with commas but your text contains commas as expected. It appears that your problem is with single quotes, not commas.
Attach a text file so we can see the text BEFORE you import it into Word.

Your "Test File.TXT" contains many odd characters and would naturally import as those characters. You'll probably have to use Find and Replace to correct the text. Still don't understand why you would create a TXT file to then Import into Word. |
