Default Assembling a multi-document book

What is the most efficient way of assembling ten PDFs - each with between 5 & 20 pages - into a single word document with Foreword page, Table of Contents and correct page number references, and section header pages before each "Section"?

eg:

Foreword Page

ToC

Chapter 1 subtitle page (1 page)
Chapter 1 PDF content (10 pages)

Chapter 2 subtitle page (1 page)
Chapter 2 PDF content (12 pages)

Chapter 3 subtitle page (1 page)
Chapter 3 PDF content (5 pages)

Chapter 4 subtitle page (1 page)
Chapter 4 PDF content (20 pages)

and so on...

I should add that the PDFs are a mixture of scanned and PDF'd text / tables, so not able to convert each of them to native word format.

Thanks
Guy

This shouldn't happen in Word.

You would build all the additional pages (foreword, TOC and Section subtitle pages) in Word and turn them into a PDF. Then use a PDF editor to insert the existing PDFs into the right places within that file.

The applications that can edit PDF files to splice the files together should also be able to add a page number or footer on every page.

You can also edit the bookmarks (in Acrobat these are the entries in the Navigation tree as distinct to the meaning of bookmark in Word) and TOC entries can be assigned as links to the relevant pages too.
