Question Office 2021: Word fails to keep the size of the pasted selection from Paint,

Office 2021: Word 2021 fails to keep the size of the pasted selection from Paint as used to be in 2019,

In the screenshot below, when hovering over the Paste icon, two sizes of the pasted image are displayed. However, as the Paste is clicked, the pasted image gets small.

Word 2019 used to work fine when cut from Paint and Paste to Word

Is this a bug in Word 2021?

By the way, if the paste is performed in Excel, it behaves as expected where the pasted image gets big

Default

The paragraph mark suggest some other formatting is applied.
It looks like you've pasted the image into a TextBox.
Instead of using Copy/Paste, is there a reason not to use the Insert/Screenshot...Clipping from directly in Word?
Also check on your Options. Under the Advanced Section, look for the "Cut, Copy, and paste" I use "In line with text" for the "Insert/paste picture as: setting.

Question

Sure. There is no box there

Very confusing. I used this cut\paste since ages with no issues. No sure what’s happening recently

For Pasting from Other Programs, you may want to try using the Default, Keep Source Formatting.

My preference for, Insert/Paste picture as: Top and Bottom
