Default My text disappeared and only left with ./

Working on a doc on a macbook pro using word 16.59 I had the doc up and was distracted by my dog (might have touched the keyboard) and now I can see the text in my doc on the desktop but when I open it there is nothing there except ./

Also now when I open a new doc the ./ is there and I cant get rid of it either. But I would like to get the text of my doc back if anyone can help . Thanks. Bill.

These are two separate problems even though related.
For the second, edit your Normal.dotm template and remove that text.
How to Open the Normal Template in Any Desktop Version of Word (except Mac 2008)

For the first problem, I am confused. Could you attach the document or a pared-down version with the problem here so we could look at it. (The document, not a screenshot.) How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum.

Hi Charles. Thankyou for considering my post. Though it seems the text in the doc is missing the information in the doc is somewhat confidential and not for public view. May I just send to you ?
Regards Bill.

Did you get the second problem - new documents fixed?

Yes, you may send the document to me.
  • Please pare down the copy you send me so that it still has the problem.
  • Please put a link to this question in the cover email.
My email is wordfaq(at)addbalance(dot)com. Note, I am a practicing lawyer so may not get to it right away.

Thankyou Charles. Will do. The second issue resolved by itself.

It appears that what you are writing about is the text appearing in the desktop icon for your document. This is a picture or snapshot that is saved when you first save the document. I do not know much more about it than that.
I am not seeing the image on my computer (Windows).
