Unfriendly Text Boxes
When inserting new text boxes I'm getting boxes with square handles that don't have wrap text and format shape options and are generally difficult to work with. I guess it's a setting but I can't figure out which. When I copy and paste text boxes from other documents I get the regular "friendly" text box.
Thank you!!! |

It might be the document format you have in that file. Does your document say it is running in [Compatibility Mode]?
On my machine, a docx file in Word 2007 format gives me text boxes with grey squares but if I change it to 2010 format I get the other format with my text boxes. However, copying and pasting in either direction converts the text box format so perhaps this is not the same as you describe.

Thank you so much for taking the time to check this Andrew. You're reply gave me the clue I needed. I was (stupidly) trying to work in a document I hadn't saved yet and that was the problem. When you mentioned Compatibility Mode that led me to the answer!!
