I am at my wits end with the scrolling on Word for Android.

I'm currently trying to edit my novel while at work and I get so frustrated when I'm concentrating and focused, then go to scroll down the page. My finger slips into the unmarked "no-zone" where I forget there's actually an invisible scroll bar, the document flies down three pages instantly and I lose my place and all my thoughts.

I am so sick of this. I scroll on my phone all day. It's intuitive to not need a scroll bar or special zone for any app. But I cannot find any settings anywhere to either disable it, enable something like automatic scrolling which I wouldn't prefer but would tolerate, or even lock the bar so it stays visible as a reminder that it exists and where.

Does anyone know of a fix to this? I am not a programmer of any sort so I'm not looking for anything complex. Just something that stops wasting my time and frustrating me. I can't be the only one who hates this.

Basic observation: Word for Android is not Microsoft Word full power.

This is true of all the mobile versions as well as the online version. There are many things that you can do with the desktop versions that simply cannot be done in any of the mobile versions.

It is really not the tool for editing a novel. It has only a subset of the features of the desktop applications.

Word for Android is fine for reviewing documents and printing them. Perhaps minor edits. Not what you are doing.

You would be far ahead finding an old laptop with Windows XP and Word XP than trying to do this on your phone. Windows 10 and Word 2010 would be even better.

Yes. It is frustrating but you are trying to use a butter knife when you need a table saw.

Bottom line: I know of no way to disable the scroll bar on Word for Android.

Since we can assume that you are editing the text and not much more, you might be better off using an external keyboard. I've put a lot words down at lunch!
I too have issues at times when navigating and making certain text-edits, words, phrasing and such.
Re-pair your Bluetooth keyboard or consider a separate keyboard like a Logitech 480 or other device that can be paired to multiple devices.
Also, if you see something you don't like in your text but will take a big edit, you might make a Note instead of the edit on the phone so when you are on a full-windows device you can make the proper edit.

I have a work around,install an overlays app. Then set up a simple overlay that covers the area you dont want to touch, you can make it transparent. App I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applay.overlay
